| GOODNIGHT SOUPY |
[Oct. 23rd, 2009|05:49 am] |
ANOTHER NEW YORK CITY LEGEND HAS PASSED AWAY. I was lucky that when I was very very young, My older sister was watching THE SOUPY SALES SHOW on our local New York Television station. It was my first exposure to real slap stick comedy. It was sad that he didn't really do much afterwords, but for that moment in time He created something unique and original that is something worthy of greatness in Television History. |

| A Beatle in Las Vegas |
[Apr. 18th, 2009|08:25 am] |
WHEN TICKETS FIRST WENT ON SALE for the Paul McCartney concert, I was sitting in front of my computer at exactly 10am (ticketmaster On Sale time)and could not even get ONE ticket. BROKERS steal these tickets and try to sell them for high mark up. So does TICKETMASTER, calling them "PREMIUM" seats on the Ticketmaster webpage.
WELL, their "PREMIUM" tickets were not selling, so overnight last night they dropped the tickets back into the TICKETMASTER system, and this morning I was able to get a BALCONY SEAT. This is what I wanted. I don't want to be crammed shoulder to shoulder with 4000 others on the Floor. I was glad to score a "seat", where I can leave to get a drink if I want and can come back to the 'space' (seat) that is Mine...
EARLY COACHELLA reviews from last night say SIR PAUL played a Two and 1/2 hour show and 29 songs on the set list. This will be worthy of the 200.00 I paid. |

| Goodbye Virgin Mega |
[Mar. 16th, 2009|05:53 am] |
All U.S. Virgin Megastores To Close By June It's sad to see Major Record Chain stores fold. First TOWER RECORDS closed, but that was before the Bush Administration pulled the plug and tanked the nations' economy.
Of course many will point the finger at 'downloading' as the fault of this tragedy. I fault the corporate Record Labels for pushing for their own maximum profit per disc as their own worst enemy. It was the 'record companies' who forced us to buy CDs when they decided to stop making records (which ironicly are coming back in a big way). And they charged us twice as much for what we paid for a 12 inch slab of vinyl in the eighties. There is no way that a group who has been around since the 1960's and 1970's, should be priced at 16.99 or more for a disc that should be 7.99 tops.
THEN there is the market itself. Let's face it, the top ten is all rap artists (because JAY Z can't 'sing'..go ahead you tube him singing Oasis' Wonderwall..no wonder he 'raps'.) And of course there is the whole Fabricated Idol... and that only seems to make instant stars for the Country Bimbos. But still even this stupid TV show can't save the music business.
The Las Vegas VIRGIN MEGASTORE pulled out of the Forum Shops at Caesars Six Years ago. I used to go there in hopes of finding what I was looking for in their IMPORT section when I would be looking for a new ROBBIE WILLIAMS release, or hope that they had the newest CD single by (erasure, pet shop boys, etc). There was no competition though with TOWER RECORDS because their domestic product was pretty much identical to what Tower Records would charge. When there is no price competition, who wins, who loses?
My Favorite Indy store here, the Arizona chain ZIA RECORDS stands proudly as the remaining Record Store in Las Vegas. It does well with great sale prices, incredible Used CD prices (go ahead and ask sonicgloo who I recently took record shopping when he was in Las Vegas, ask him how much He spent).
TOWER RECORDS still sells CD's online, but they still have AMAZON.COM to compete with, and I rarely look at Towers' site. |
